VaultTail Privacy Policy

Version 1.0.0 — effective July 28, 2026

The Publisher is the person or entity identified as the publisher of VaultTail in the Microsoft Store listing or other distribution information supplied with the application.

Data handled by the application

VaultTail processes locally the folders selected by the user and the linked external drive. It stores local settings, the linked-drive identity, backup indexes, recovery checkpoints, and diagnostic logs. Logs can include timestamps, drive information, operation results, error codes, and full file or folder paths.

Data transmission

Version 1.0.0 does not include advertising, analytics, telemetry, cloud synchronization, account creation, or a Publisher-operated network service. VaultTail does not intentionally send file contents, selected-folder contents, backup contents, or application logs to the Publisher or third parties.

Windows displays VaultTail notifications through Windows notification facilities. Operating-system processing is governed by Microsoft’s terms and privacy statements.

Retention and control

Settings and logs remain on the computer until removed by the application, the user, uninstallation behavior, or operating-system maintenance. Backup files and VaultTail service data on an external drive may remain after the application is uninstalled. The user controls the selected folders and linked drive and is responsible for securely erasing or disposing of storage devices.

Contact and changes

Questions about this policy or VaultTail privacy practices may be sent using the support contact shown in the Microsoft Store listing or other distribution information supplied with the application. If a future version adds telemetry, online services, accounts, or cloud features, this policy and the application’s consent behavior will be updated before those features are released.
